My approach to working with you, your partner or your family

I work with the whole family or with different combinations of family members such as couples, intimate partners or siblings, with the aim to maximise on the couple or family’s strengths and to support individuals to overcome the problems they are experiencing. I also work with individuals who are struggling with relationships. I support you in therapy to express and explore difficult thoughts and emotions safely, appreciate each-other’s needs, build on strengths and make useful changes in relationships and family life. A key objective of mine is to support you to identify how you, your family and other relationships function with the aim of developing more helpful ways of interacting and supporting each other.

All of us face challenges and experience problems from time to time, this can sometimes put pressure on our relationships, affecting our psychological well-being and of the people we care about.  I work with relationships, episodes of family and partner difficulties, work stress, life-cycle transitions, child adolescent and adult mental health issues, sexuality, identity, parenting, trauma and the impact of SEND issues on family life.

THERAPY SESSIONS FOR INDIVIDUALS

Some people seek out individual therapy as a space to explore struggles and worries in their own space and time. Sometimes  individual sessions are offered  prior to a planned piece of family work, where coming together immediately might need some more thinking about and preparation, especially where there is conflict. Individual work can cover issues such as mental health struggles, relational dissatisfaction, trauma, sexual identity, ADHD and life stressors.

OTHER THERAPY OPTIONS
UNDER ONE ROOF THERAPY

As a psychotherapist, I regularly evaluate whether my approach is a suitable fit for the individuals, partners, or family groups I work with. Over the years, this has led me to collaborate with other specialised psychotherapists and healthcare professionals.

At ‘Under One Roof Therapy’, I have brought together a small, trusted team of qualified and appropriately registered professionals. Each professional brings their unique specialties in areas such as relationships, clinical sexology, therapeutic parenting, SEND support, trauma etc. We recognise that no single approach or therapist can meet all needs. Our philosophy is based on the belief that effective therapy requires diverse approaches and a diverse range of professionals, at different times in our lives.

Therapy plans are not generated by algorithms! Instead, your experience will be tailored to fit your specific needs. After an initial conversation with me, we will work together to determine what therapy might look like. This may involve sessions with just me or identifying another professional within the network who is better suited to your needs. Together, we create a comprehensive support structure that offers flexibility and effective care planning.

For ease, sessions (if not online), will operate from our clinic in Central London at 37 Queen Anne St W1G (Bond St tube). We find that the central location is great for people commuting in from different places and you get what you need… ‘Under One Roof’.

Penelope Denny

I hold an MSc in Systemic Family and Couple Psychotherapy and I am accredited with the UKCP (United Kingdom of Clinical Practitioners) and a registered member of the Association of Family Therapy.

I have over twenty years of therapeutic experience as I initially trained as an Arts Psychotherapist before qualifying as a Systemic Family and Couple/Relationship Psychotherapist. Over time, I have worked in a variety of settings where I have worked with families and children individually in CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service), couples and families in adult mental health NHS, and providing specialist parenting coaching as being a parent is one of the most challenging jobs we will ever undertake.
